Eligibility & Qualifications

The Asia Open Golf Championship 2025 will feature a field of 120 players, both amateur and professional, selected based on the following criteria

Player Exemptions:

  • Past Champions: Champions from previous Asia Open Golf Championships will receive a five-year exemption provided they maintain their amateur or professional status.
  • Top Performers from 2024: The top five finishers from the 2024 Asia Open Golf Championship, including ties for fifth place, will automatically qualify, provided they maintain their status.

World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and National Representation:

  • The top two ranked amateur players from each recognized golf federation, as well as the top four players from the host country, based on the WAGR as of July 25, 2024, will qualify for the Championship.
  • If a federation has only one player in the WAGR, that player will represent their country. Federations without ranked players may nominate one player with a handicap of 5.4 or lower, subject to approval by the Championship Committee.

Filling the Field:

  • The remaining spots in the field will be filled by the next highest-ranked players from the WAGR as of July 25, 2024.
  • Each country is allowed a maximum of seven players, except for the host nation, which may have up to 10 players.

Additional Invitations:

  • If exempt players (past champions and top finishers) are not included in their country’s WAGR-qualified list, they will be added to the field beyond the country’s maximum allocation. If they fall within their country’s qualified players, no extra invitations will be granted.

The Championship Committee reserves the right to invite additional players or revoke invitations for reasons including disciplinary issues, anti-doping violations, or conduct contrary to the tournament’s best interests.

National Federation Responsibilities:

It is the responsibility of each national golf federation to verify the eligibility of their players before July 25, 2024, and notify the Championship Committee of any issues, such as:

  • Incorrect nationality listings in WAGR.
  • Players turning professional.
  • Any similar issues affecting the player list.
